Changes, September 1984-September 1985
Radio
West went back into the night on Monday 3 September 1984.
From
that Monday, Breakfast finished at 9:30 and mornings at 1:00. Mark’s
Late Lunch started after West at One, and Paul Phear’s show began at 3.
The change to the times above came a few months later.
· Originally, the Late Line phone-in ran from 10:00-11:00. It soon changed to 11:00-12:00.
· Bill Sims’ Thursday night show didn’t start in September 1984, but came later. And originally, the Music Magazine was on Friday evenings as well.
Saturdays before Sports had a number of different line-ups and Weekend Gold had a number of presenters, including Chris Criddle and Paul Phear. In September 1984, Weekend Gold finished at 8 p.m. Rock West with Chris Bull followed from 8:00-10:00, and then Andy started at 10:00, but very quickly, the two shows were combined, and I don’t think Chris appeared on the station after that.
John Ford took over Sunday Starter from Gill Capewell towards closedown. Mike Ganley took over from Richard Wyatt. Before Tooki’s Folk started, the slot was filled by Sunday Gold, presented by Lorna Morgan.
Tom Clapton left West on Saturday 3 August 1985. I think Andy Westgate did breakfast for the last few weeks, and some presenters from Wiltshire Radio appeared on the station. I distinctly remember Dave Bowen presenting lunchtime, Lynda Couch presenting West Tonight, and Dave Barrett on the late show (Dave Barrett). For the last few weeks, Andy Fox presented the evening show..
